Cheap HDTV

When the first high definition TV-sets appeared at the end of last century we all got very excited and there were enough reasons for us to feel so. We instantly enjoyed highly superior resolution and digital surround sound. Movie addicts could suddenly watch movies in their original widescreen format, without seeing those annoying letterbox "black bars" and take delight in a much better sound. Cheap HDTV got very interesting from there on...

Choosing The Right HDTV...

It is true that confusion aroused when some of us rushed to buy a new TV-set and found ourselves surrounded by a too wide range of choices. Abbreviated names of TV’s invaded the market and few of us really knew the difference between them. Terms like analogue, digital, high definition as well as several resolution levels available made things even more puzzling.

We now know that HDTV is the highest part of the digital television transition which offers high resolution, displaying 24, 30 or 60 frames per second, and high-definition signal. Of course, we need the right kind of equipment to be able to receive and view it, which means shopping is not at all easy when it comes to buying TVs.

Before starting shopping, we must keep in mind three parts that HDTV requires: the source (cable or satellite HDTV station), antenna, cable or satellite service and an HDTV-set. Most of us start with the HDTV-set. There is nothing wrong with that. There are two kinds available: integrated HDTV and HDTV-ready set.

The former has a built-in digital tuner (ATSC tuner) so you can attach an antenna and watch the station in high definition – if there is a station near you broadcasting in HDTV, of course. The second, also called an HDTV monitor, does not have such a tuner. Some will have NTSC tuners which allow you to watch analogue TV with them.

This would be the best option if you do not intend to spend much money now but are planning to have HDTV capabilities later. You can be sure the picture quality will be far better than on your old TV but you will have to wait for the high definition until you have purchased an HDTV receiver.
